Miami Heat Will Not Play On Christmas 2016

For the first time since 2008, the Miami Heat will not play on the Christmas day. December 25 will be a day off for the Heat players this year and the most likely reason for this change is the Heat losing their longtime franchise superstar Dwyane Wade to the free agency.

The last Christmas game the Heat played was the one against the New Orleans Pelicans which was won by the Heat in the overtime. A year before that game, the Heat faced off against their former player LeBron James and his new-old team, Cleveland Cavaliers, winning the game. In 2013, the Heat defeated the Los Angeles Lakers by 6 points and a year earlier they had defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder with the same point differential. On Christmas 2011, Miami defeated the Dallas Mavericks, and a year before they had another game against the Lakers, and another win.

Before the big 3 era in Miami, Dwyane Wade had played five Christmas games, three of them being against the Lakers, one against the New York Knicks and the other one against the Cavaliers. The Heat were victorious in four of these games, as the only loss came against Cleveland in 2007. Wade will most likely get another opportunity to play on Christmas this year as his new team, the Chicago Bulls, have improved a lot in the offseason. As for Miami, they will have to wait for the next year and hopefully get a matchup on December 25.

Miami Heat are 10-2 all-time in Christmas games and the only losses came in 1997 when they played against the Chicago Bulls and in 2007 against the Cavaliers. However, the Heat are perfect when playing at home on this holiday, with five wins and no losses.
