Miami Heat opened the new year in a great way as had their second straight blowout victory last night. After the Mavericks fell down in Miami by 24 points just a few days ago, the Heat blew the Wizards out in Washington by 22. Heat's center Hassan Whiteside had a bad game offensively, but he was a strong defensive force once again, and it earned him some words of praise by the opponent, Marcin Gortat.
Whiteside finished the game with 6 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 6 blocks. He is the league's leading shot blocker, well ahead of every other shot blocker and his dominance under the rim is unmatched. On the other side, Gortat finished the game with 12 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. He was defended by Whiteside for a big part of the game and he also got rejected by the Heat's center.
Considering that Gortat has been in the league for nearly a decade, these words of praise definitely mean something. As Whiteside continues to play better and better, more people are paying attention to him and realizing that he's a very good player. Whiteside will be a free agent this summer and many teams will look to sign him, so any attention he gets is good for him and his next contract, which will be a big one.
